ServStats
ServStats is a Firefox extension that lets users share statistics about web server connectivity and diagnose network failures. When a network failure occurs, ServStats automatically conducts diagnostic tests and infers the most likely cause of failure. ServStats also communicates with remote diagnostic agents to improve the accuracy of diagnosis. In addition, with ServStats you can just push a button in your browser to find out the number of times other people have attempted to connect to a server, the average latency and rate of failure for that server, and more. Note that diagnostic capabilities are only available in versions 0.5 and up (go to http://servstats.mozdev.org/ for the latest version)ServStats is part of the Knowledge Plane research project at MIT. Our objective is to provide a platform for exchanging network knowledge and data and performing probabilistic reasoning. ServStats is the first step towards a system for automatically diagnosing network failures using data from users and Diagnostic Agents. We care about your privacy so we only collect the minimum amount of information necessary to calculate server statistics and scramble server hostnames using a MD5 hash. Please read the FAQ at http://servstats.mozdev.org/faq.html for more details. And of course you are free to inspect the source code since this is an open source project.
